ALAMOGORDO, RUIDOSO, CLOUDCROFT, CARLSBAD, NM – January 9, 2017 – The USDA Forest Service is seeking grant applications for forest restoration projects on public and tribal lands in New Mexico by 5 PM, MST, Thursday, February 23, 2017.    

“Approximately $3 million will be awarded under the Collaborative Forest Restoration Program this year in New Mexico,” said Southwestern Regional Forester Cal Joyner.  “The Forest Service will provide grants of up to $360,000 for projects that will be implemented in four years or less.” Read the remainder of this entry »

LNFAlamogordo, Ruidoso, Cloudcroft, and Carlsbad, NM – December 14, 2016 – Fire officials on the Lincoln National Forest’s Smokey Bear and Sacramento Districts plan to continue to take advantage of favorable weather and burning conditions through the month of January.  No prescribed fire activities are planned on the Guadalupe District during this time.

Christmas Tree Permits – Sales Begin November 14th

Christmas TreeALAMOGORDO, RUIDOSO, CLOUDCROFT, CARLSBAD, NM – November 14, 2016 – The Lincoln National Forest will begin selling Christmas Tree permits on Monday, November 14th for $10.00 each – only one per household.  A limited number of permits will be available to be sold on a first-come first-served basis.  An individual may purchase up to four permits for (four) separate households.  The last day to purchase a permit is December 23rd while offices are open and permits are available. Survey finds endangered mouse on Lincoln National Forest

LNFCLOUDCROFT, NM – October 31, 2016 – For Immediate Release.  Biologists’ recent trapping efforts have confirmed the presence of the New Mexico Meadow Jumping Mouse (NMMJM) in an area where it historically occurred in the Sacramento Mountains.  Beth Humphrey, District Ranger on the Sacramento Ranger District said, “This is a remarkable discovery!  There are only a few populations of this species left, with suitable habitats found in isolated areas of New Mexico, Colorado, and Arizona.  To confirm their existence here on the Lincoln National Forest gives hope that this species can recover over a period of time.”  Read the remainder of this entry »
