Public Comment sought on Watershed Restoration and Fuels Reduction Project

LNFALAMOGORDO, CLOUDCROFT, NM – DECEMBER 7, 2016 – For immediate release.  The Lincoln National Forest’s Sacramento Ranger District is accepting public comment on a draft Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Westside Sacramento Mountains Watershed Restoration and Fuels Reduction project. The analysis area encompasses approximately 3,206 acres on the western slope of the Sacramento Mountains, including two treatment areas in the vicinity of La Luz and Maruche Canyons, and three clustered treatment areas near Laborcita Canyon.

The Proposed Action includes:   prescribed burning, hand and mechanical vegetation and restoration treatments, and road maintenance within approximately 3,206 acres of National Forest land in order to improve forest and watershed health, reduce the risk of intense wildfire, and move the project area towards the desired conditions.
