Follow Me to the Senior Center – I Do

Marrianne, the Executive Director of our Senior Center, is getting married to a really nice guy named Chris. After a great deal of contemplation (about thirty seconds) I asked myself, “Do I want to make fun of my friends?” The answer was a resounding, “I do! I do!” What kind of low life would make jokes about his friend’s wedding? (That would be me!) New Mexico DOT Ready For Winter Storm

NMDOTSanta Fe – New Mexico’s first wave of winter weather is on our doorstep and the New Mexico Department of Transportation wants to assure the public that our crews are on standby and ready to go.

Snowplows and trucks that apply salt and cinder to icy roads are loaded and ready. Crews will work around the clock to clear roads and assist where needed. Read the remainder of this entry »

Collaborative Forest Restoration Program Workshops

LNFThe Collaborative Forest Restoration Program – or CFRP- is a Federal Grant created to fund projects that reduce the risk of high severity fire and add value to small diameter wood.

CFRP is designed to allow community to propose projects that can be implemented on public lands.  These projects can fall into one of three categories: Planning, Utilization, or Implementation. Read the remainder of this entry »

Holiday Superblitz Begins This Weekend

The State of New Mexico’s Holiday Superblitz gets underway Friday, November 15.  During this time, law enforcement agencies from across the state, including local, state and tribal, will be out in force conducting sobriety checkpoints, saturation patrols, seatbelt enforcement, speeding enforcement and looking for other traffic safety violations.  Read the remainder of this entry »

Prescribed Burning to Resume on Lincoln National Forest

LNFALAMOGORDO, NM – November 1, 2013 – Fire officials on the Lincoln National Forest’s Sacramento and Smokey Bear Districts plan to take advantage of favorable weather conditions as they resume prescribed burning operations during the months of November and December. Fall and winter weather provides an excellent burning environment, however, ignitions are dependent on fuel and weather conditions on the day of the burn, as well as days that follow ignitions. Cool daytime temperatures help moderate fire intensity; good ventilation ensures that smoke will disperse and result in minimal air quality impacts; predicted high winds can cause ignitions to be postponed.  Read the remainder of this entry »
