Lincoln National Forest Offices Reopen

LNFALAMOGORDO, NM – October 17, 2013 – The U.S. Forest Service is immediately beginning its process of reopening recreational facilities across the country and reinstating timber and stewardship contracts that had been suspended during the shutdown.  We expect to reopen recreational facilities as soon as employees return to work and we are able to evaluate the cleanliness and safety of each individual facility.  With timber and stewardship contracts, resumption of operations will depend on factors such as weather, terrain conditions and the readiness of contractors to mobilize.  We look forward to working with our stakeholders to make Forest Service programs and activities available to the public as soon as possible.

“On the Lincoln National Forest, we look forward to being fully operational very quickly so that we may resume our work in natural resources that is so important to all of us. Thank you for your patience and support,” said Travis Moseley, Forest Supervisor on the Lincoln National Forest.

Thursday served as a transition day to restart services, including many computer-based applications, servicing of vehicles and field equipment and strategizing and re-evaluating work priorities. The Lincoln National Forest offices will be staffed and operational by Friday morning and are expected to be settling back into a normal business routine by Monday.
