Status of Recent Flood Impacts on Lincoln National Forest

 Recent flood-related events have had various impacts on Lincoln National Forest roads, sites and facilities.  Please call District Offices for specific information regarding closures that have been or may be implemented.


Guadalupe Ranger District; Carlsbad, NM,  ph:  575-885-4181

  • Sitting Bull Falls Recreation Site, located about four miles northeast of Queen, NM, is closed, due to current road conditions and flood damage to the site’s viewing areas.


Smokey Bear Ranger District, Ruidoso, NM,  ph:  575-257-4095

Turn Around Don’t Down (TADD)”:

Each year, more deaths occur due to flooding than from any other severe weather related hazard. The Centers for Disease Control report that over half of all flood-related drownings occur when a vehicle is driven into hazardous flood water.
