Lincoln National Forest Fire Updates – August 5, 2013

Wildfire Update  – 8/5/13 – 12:30 pm

Sawmill Fire – Lightning-caused fire on Sacramento Ranger District
The Sawmill Fire was reported on 8/4/13 at 2:14 pm.
Location: Approximately 8 miles south of Cloudcroft, NM, off the Sunspot Highway (NM Hwy 6563).

The Sawmill Fire was a single tree (snag) that was struck by lightning. Forest Services firefighters responded to the incident to extinguish the fire. The fire generic nexium from canada size was estimated at less than one-tenth of an acre. The area will be patrolled and monitored for the next several days.

Strike 2 Fire – Lightning-caused fire on the Sacramento Ranger District
The Strike 2 Fire was reported on 8/4/13 at 6:44 pm.
Location:  Approximately 8 miles south of Cloudcroft, NM, off the Sunspot Highway (NM Hwy 6563).

The Strike 2 Fire was a single tree (snag) that was struck by lightning in the vicinity of the Sawmill Fire. Forest Services firefighters responded to the incident to extinguish the fire. The fire size was estimated at less than one-tenth of an acre. The area will be patrolled and monitored for the next several days.

Prescribed Fire Update  – 8/5/13 – 12:30 pm

Skillet Prescribed Fire Project on the Smokey Bear Ranger District
The Skillet Prescribed Fire project: 470 acres of machine-piled slash.
Location:  2 miles southwest of Glencoe, NM, off Forest Road 443 (Hale Lake road).

Bradford Prescribed Fire Project on the Sacramento Ranger District
The Bradford Prescribed Fire project: 365 acres of piled slash.
Location:  2 miles north of Cloudcroft, NM.

Ignition operations began late this morning (8/5/13) on the Skillet and Bradford projects.

Smoke will be visible during ignition operations and may settle into drainages and lower elevations at night.  Smoke generally dissipates as daytime temperatures increase. If motorists encounter smoke on travel ways, they are advised to reduce travel speeds and turn headlights on.
