Lincoln National Forest – Fire Updates – 7/14/13 – 7:00 pm

READ FIRE – Lightning-caused
The READ Fire was reported on 7/13/13 at 1:10 pm.
Location:  7 miles northwest of Capitan, NM, on Read Mesa

The Read Fire is located in a remote area on Read Mesa. The Sacramento Hotshots are assigned to the incident. Firefighters are also being supported by Helicopter 372.  Initial attack operations continued today and the fire is now 100% contained at 11 acres. There was some light precipitation on the fire today. Mop-up activities are underway and are expected to be ongoing for the next few days.

HARRISON FIRE – Lightning-caused
The HARRISON Fire was reported on 7/12/13 at 3:50 pm.
Location:  North side of the Capitan Mountain

The Harrison Fire was detected in Kyle Harrison Canyon on Friday afternoon. It was described as a single tree that was burning in an area of rough, rugged terrain. Light smoke was initially visible at the time of detection, but smoke has not been visible since then. The area will continue to be monitored and patrolled.


PIERCE FIRE – Lightning-caused
The PIERCE Fire was reported on 7/11/13 at 6:13 am.
Location:  2 miles south, southwest of Cloudcroft, NM

This one-quarter (1/4) acre fire is 100% contained and remains in monitor/patrol status. There is no active fire or smoke on the Pierce Fire.


PANCHO FIRE – Lightning-caused
The PANCHO Fire was reported on 7/6/13 at 8:25 pm.
Location:  12 miles east, northeast of Capitan, NM

The fire was declared controlled on 7/11/13 at 11:55 am, at 7.6 acres and remains in monitor/patrol status.  There is no active fire or smoke on the Pancho Fire.
