Lincoln National Forest’s Fire Danger Increases

ALAMOGORDO, NM – March 29, 2013 – A combination of  low moisture, persistent drought, winds and warm weather in southeastern New Mexico has prompted Lincoln National Forest fire officials to elevate the Guadalupe Ranger District’s fire danger rating to HIGH, while the fire danger in higher elevations on the Smokey Bear and Sacramento Ranger Districts is described as MODERATE. When I was in college, for Thanksgiving I would bring some of my friends home with me. My mother and grandmother were always delighted to have a full table. They served a holiday meal second to none. I went to school only thirty miles from home, so every few months I would come home for a weekend unannounced. After all, why wouldn’t my mother and grandmother want to see their darling boy? Big-game hunters: Apply for licenses before March 20 deadline

SANTA FE – The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish is reminding hunters that March 20 is the deadline to apply for deer, elk, pronghorn antelope, oryx, ibex, bighorn sheep, javelina and Barbary sheep licenses. The deadline is a week earlier than last year. The Department expects about 160,000 applications for about 65,000 licenses. Read the remainder of this entry »
