Get Ready for Fall Hunting Seasons

The hunting season for mourning and white winged doves, dusky grouse, band-tailed pigeons and squirrels in most of New Mexico begins Sept. 1 in both North and South zones. All hunters need a Game Hunting license and a federal Harvest Information Program number. Hunters 18 and older need a Habitat Management and Access Stamp.

The September teal season is Sept. 15-23, and hunters older than 16 will need a Migratory Bird Hunting and Conservation Stamp (duck stamp, ). Those hunting either Bureau of Land Management- or U.S. Forest Service-managed properties also will need a Habitat Improvement Stamp ().

Applications for special hunts for light geese is Oct. 3.
