Tourism Dept. & Ruidoso Lodging Industry Aid Residents Displaced by Fire

Santa Fe (June 12, 2012) – In response to inquiries from local residents in the Ruidoso area impacted by the Little Bear Fire, the New Mexico Tourism Department has been working with the local hospitality industry to identify discounted and free hotel room rates for those displaced by evacuations.

Early on during the incident, the Ruidoso and Ruidoso Downs lodging industry partners, joined forces to offer deeply discounted – and in some cases, comp – lodging for evacuees of the Little Bear Fire north of Ruidoso.

“The owners and operators of lodging facilities in cities and towns throughout New Mexico are genuinely invested in their communities – they are our friends and neighbors which is evident by their response to those in need in Ruidoso and surrounding areas,” said Monique Jacobson, Secretary of the New Mexico Tourism Department.

A list of Ruidoso lodging that is currently offering discounted rates or complimentary accommodations to evacuees is listed below and uploaded on the New Mexico Tourism Department’s industry partners web site, www.nmindustrypartners.org, which is updated as new lodging opportunities are added.
