Fireworks Displays Over Lake Waters

 SANTA FE, NM – The New Mexico State Parks Division invites visitors to public fireworks displays at nearby parks instead of lighting their own due to the extreme fire danger. Public fireworks displays will be held over lake waters at Elephant Butte Lake State Park, Eagle Nest Lake State Park, Sumner Lake State Park and Ute Lake State Park. 34 of the 35 New Mexico state parks are open and many parks have activities scheduled over the Fourth of July holiday weekend. Follow Me to the Senior Center High Crimes and Misdemeanors

When you are over sixty, it seems like you are always going to a doctor or a dentist. Unfortunately in the last few months I’ve had to make several trips to the dentist’s office. If you haven’t been for a while, they’ve made some changes. One office actually had no magazines in their waiting room; instead they had a large video screen explaining all the wonderful things they could do for you and your smile. They also have small video screens in their exam rooms. So with nothing better to do than contemplating my impending doom, I started reading my chart posted on the screen. Enjoy the Forest and Take Care This Holiday Week

Alamogordo, NM (June 27, 2012) –Families and friends can head to the mountains for some heat-relief and holiday fun, except in the Little Bear Fire area which remains closed for the safety of visitors and firefighters.  The use of fireworks and pyrotechnic devices is always prohibited on national forests and grasslands, regardless of weather conditions or holidays.  The Lincoln National Forest is currently in Stage 1 Fire Restrictions, so charcoal, wood, coal, or camp fires are prohibited except in developed campgrounds where grills or fire rings are provided. Portions of Smokey Bear Ranger District to Reopen

Alamogordo, NM (June 21, 2012) –The southern portion of the Smokey Bear Ranger District closed during the Little Bear Fire is now open. The area south of the Ski Run Road and on both sides of Highway 70 from Ruidoso to the forest boundary near Glencoe is now open for use.  This includes areas known as Cedar Creek, Gavilan Ridge, Little Creek, Eagle Creek, Devil’s Canyon, and Hale Lake.
