My grandson is about to turn eight years old, so my son Brian thought he’d make it a special birthday, calling it “A Passage into the Adventure of Boyhood.” Some of us men in his life are supposed to write letters with encouragement and advice. Along with the letters, he gets a bunch of cool stuff like a Swiss army knife, flashlight, bandanna, and a camera. Oh, and a trip to a wild animal park. (They live in Africa.) This year, over 1.4 million Americans will hear the words “You have cancer”. I know too many people who are touched by cancer, and that is why I have joined the American Cancer Society on a mission to save lives and create a world with more birthdays by participating in the Relay For Life in my community.
