Sombrero Prescribed Burn to Continue South of Timberon

Alamogordo, NM (November 14, 2011) – The Sacramento Ranger District will continue to implement the Sombrero Prescribed Burn as early as Wednesday, November 16th continuing through Saturday November 19th. Approximately 500 acres have already been burned and the remaining 640 acres will be completed during these days, weather permitting. This treatment reduces fuel accumulations associated with a wildlife habitat improvement project and natural fuel loadings.

The burn is located approximately two miles east-south east of Timberon, and the residents of Timberon and Sunspot may see and smell smoke for the duration of the burn. Smoke is expected to be visible along US Highway 54 and from other areas in and around Timberon.

District fire managers are closely monitoring weather forecasts and fuels conditions to ensure that burn conditions and objectives will be met and to minimize the impacts of smoke on populated can i buy nexium over the counter areas.

Signs will be posted along roadways that may be affected by the smoke and motorists are urged to use caution. Forest personnel will post current information regarding the progress of the burn for communities and residents in the area. As always, firefighter and public safety are the top priority.
