NM Rails-to-Trails September 17th Workday

Happy Day!  The Forest Service has finished the necessary archeological and environmental studies and has given its permission to complete the trail loop from Bridal Veil Falls to the Grand View Trail!

Saturday September 17th:  Meet at the “Lower” Grandview trailhead on Fresnal Canyon Rd in High Rolls at 9:00 a.m.  Volunteers of all skill levels are needed.  Bring your own drinking water, sturdy footwear, sun protection and work gloves.  All tools will be provided.  We plan to work until Noon.

DIRECTIONS TO LOWER GRANDVIEW TRAILHEAD: From Hwy 82 in High Rolls, turn North at the Old High Rolls Store onto Cherry Blossom Ln for 0.3 mi then West(left) at the stop sign onto Cottage Row. Drive 0.45 mi and turn N (R)onto Fresnal Cyn Rd. The lower trailhead is on the left at .9 mi.

Our goal is to complete the loop in time for a grand opening on National Trails Day, June 2, 2012.

There will be many extra workdays involved to meet our goal.  If you are interested to helping on extra workdays, please send an email message to nmrailtrails@gmail.com with the subject, “EXTRA WORKDAYS” along with your phone number.  We’ll add your name to our calling list.

In addition to trail-builders, we need trail steward volunteers to hike each one of the Grand View, Salado Canyon and Bridal Veil Falls rail trails to access trail conditions and pick up trash.  This may be done on our regular workday, or if you would like to volunteer on a day of your choosing, contact Deb Maucione:  dtmnm@tularosa.net

We appreciate your support!
