Summer Update from the Chamber of Commerce

By Suzi Palomino
Now that the rains have hit the Cloudcroft area we can take a breath of relief. The recent moisture hasn’t stopped any of the events from happening, in fact it brought out the locals as well as lots of visitors up to enjoy the cool mountain air.

The first mentioned event that has been a big hit is the Family Movie Nights so they will continue through August as long as the weather allows. We are not going to complain about the rain as it is so very much wanted and needed. We seem to have gotten enough to re-open the forest with limited use and fire restrictions still in place. This does mean a lot to our local merchants and community as well as the visitors who want the chance to take advantage of the hiking, biking, camping and picnic areas while staying close enough to attend events here in Cloudcroft.

We do have 2 new events coming up in the making. One being “The First Annual Outhouse Races” to be held during the Labor Day weekend on 9/4 with the registration deadline on 8/26. There will be flyers posted around the village and at the Chamber of Commerce with the rules and regulations. There will be a max of 5 people on a team with a $25 entry fee and the race will start at 2pm with a cash prize!!

The 2nd new event is “The nexium generic equivalent Horseshoe League” which will be an on-going event much like the movie nights. The team fee on this is $30 per team. A team will of course consist of 2 persons and 1 sub. The deadline for registration will be 8/1 and the league starts 8/2.

Now switching gears, we want to say a big Congratulations to Dave & Chuck Venable on the groundbreaking for the New & Improved Pine Stump Mall. I personally cant wait for Dave’s Café to be up and running again, cooking my favorite (and Chuck knows this) the Chicken Clapper!! Yum Yum

Summer is winding down and even though it was a bit dry we still managed to have a very successful 4th of July Weekend. The Village of Cloudcroft was open for business, there were lots of people that attended all the events we had stretched out over the entire 4 day weekend. Also the July Jamboree which featured local artists and crafters as well as bringing in talents from afar was a huge success.
