White Fire Update – April 6, 2011

WHITE FIRE NEWS RELEASE – April 6, 2011 8:00 PM Significant progress was accomplished today on the White Fire as firefighters continued mop up operations reaching a containment of 50% although winds with gusts of up to 40 mph presented a challenge. A 3 acre 50 ft high organic pile located near Ruidoso Downs Racetrack has also presented a challenge to firefighters due to fire being established within it.

Firefighters also continued cold trailing efforts along the NM Hwy 70 corridor thoroughly searching for smokes and extinguishing hot spots. Travelers should use caution if driving along NM Hwy 70 as fire traffic will still be in that area.

A cold front that moved in this afternoon bringing cooler temperatures and possibly a minimal amount of moisture will be a positive factor as crews work to reach further containment. Tomorrow’s weather forecast includes some higher relative humidity from the cold front with wind gusts of up to 40 mph.

The New Mexico Type 2 Incident Management Team will transition control of the White Fire to a smaller Type 3 organization on Friday, April 8 at 6 PM. A gradual release of fire crews and other resources will begin tomorrow.

Rehab of fireline suppression activities such as dozer and handlines are in the planning stages. In addition, a Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) team will begin assessment for rehab within the fire http://premier-pharmacy.com/product/cialis/ area for the prevention of erosion.
