Forest Service To Cut Hazardous Trees Along Highway 82

Alamogordo, NM (April 29, 2011) – The felling of hazardous trees along U.S. Highway 82 on the east side of Cloudcroft, NM, will begin on Monday, May 2 through May 12, 2011, to reduce the potential threat of trees falling on to roadways due to strong winds in southeastern New Mexico. Notes From The Bird House – Raven Part Deux

The first year I lived here, I was seeing things that this city girl had never been exposed to. For example, mountain lions, bears, and horny toad lizards were just a few of the unusual things I was privy to see. Each time I saw something new, I would call my husband and tell him my experience with the new discovery. Last Chance Fire Update

Summary: The high winds returned to the fire today but because of the exceptional work performed by the crews everything held and there was limited smoke visible from the fire. Sitting Bull Falls Day-Use Area Closure

Closure Order Prohibits Access To Sitting Bull Falls Day-Use Area
Alamogordo, NM (April 27, 2011) – The Sitting Bull Falls day-use picnic area located on Eddy County Road 409 (commonly known as Sitting Bull Falls Road) on the Guadalupe District outside of Carlsbad, New Mexico, has been closed until further notice. Lincoln National Forest Supervisor Robert Trujillo signed a Closure Order effective April 25, 2011, that prohibits access to the day-use area. Read the remainder of this entry »

2011 WILDFIRE SEASON Could this be the driest Fire Season ever recorded in the Sacramento Mountains? Find out the answer to this and many other critical questions during the 5th annual Sacramento Mountains Wildland Fire Information and Prevention Forum. This year, the forum will be held at the Cloudcroft High School in the Commons area on Saturday, April 30 beginning at 10:00 am. Formal presentations and discussions are scheduled from 10:00 until 12:00 noon. Individual political and administrative officials will be on hand to discuss issues and answer questions thereafter.
